Why Nobel Prize is not given in the field of mathematics?
There are many theories as to why maths is not included.
One says that Swedish mathematician Gosta Magnus Mittang-Leffer ran off with Alfred Noble’s wife and the exclusion of maths is Nobel’s revenge. However, Alfred Nobel never married!
Another says that Mittang-Leffer, in process of accumulating his own wealth, antagonized Nobel. Nobel, afraid that Mittang-Leffer being a leading Swedish mathematician would win the prize in maths, then refused to institute such a prize.
However, the most rational one says that Mittang-Leffer and Nobel didn’t even know each other. It’s just that the thought of a prize in mathematics never entered Nobel’s mind!
